Join us on a search for wild and edible mushrooms led by Christian Schwarz, mushroom identification expert and author of Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast! On this field trip you’ll receive an introduction to fungi diversity and learn how to identify different types of mushrooms using field guides and tools such as the iNaturalist app. You’ll also learn how to ‘hunt’ mushrooms and put your new skills to use by collecting specimens for the next day’s mushroom show.
Field trip is limited to 12 people (adults only, no pets please) and pre-registration is required. Please meet at the Nature Center parking lot by 9:30am. We will be carpooling to the National Forest. Please indicate your willingness to drive or ride with others on the registration form.
If you plan to collect mushrooms you must first obtain a free Forest Products Free Use Permit from the U.S. Forest Service office in Bend. Please bring this permit with you on the field trip. You should also bring a wide-bottomed container (bucket, basket) and a sturdy knife or small garden trowel for mushroom collection. Additional details about supplies and preparation for the field trip will be emailed to registrants two weeks prior to the field trip.
Registration will open on September 6 at 9 am.
To cancel or modify your registration, please contact the Nature Center at (541) 593-4394 or email info@snco.org.
